It was another six hour drive to our third Eyes Adrift show and our second with Laguardia as the supporting act.
Jaunitas proved to be a great little venue. The stage area is much like the Bottleneck in Lawrence, which is my personal favorite concert venue. The stage is at an angle in the corner of the room, the cieling is relatively low and the room is of medium size and approximately square. This set up produces a great atmosphere and great sound in both of these two venues. We were eager to see Laguardia again, and Laguardia did not let us down in the least. They played a truely amazing set that blew away what we heard in Lincoln. The sound was right on and the performance was superb. I really don't know what to compare Laguardia too as I typically do not listen to bands that do the keyboard/guitar rock thing. The songwriting is great though, and it is obvious that the lead singer/keyboardist guy is a very talented musician. Don't pass up a chance to see these guys in concert. They really seem to be getting their live show together. Mary spoke to them after the show and explained that we were at the Lincoln show. They said that Lincoln and Little Rock were their two best shows, and I don't find that difficult to believe. The band really connected with the crowd at these to shows and that is almost unheard of for a little known band like Laguadia on a national tour. When it was Eyes Adrift's turn the question on our minds was, "what key is Curt going to sing on this time?" We weren't left wondering too long as a totally coherent Curt ripped into the beginning of the set. They had to restart the second or thrid song, I think it was telescope, but I can't remember. Other than that the performance was very 'on'. This show was toward the end of their tour and it showed. Fans were more aware of the songs, the show was just smoother overall, and Curt made a few modifications to the distortion tones he was using. he may have done this, because he liked them better or simply to entertain himself. At any rate the performance was top notch. Eyes Adrift plays a great blend of alt-country rock that is balanced and comfortable to listen to, yet still has more than enough distortion and volume to keep your ears ringing for a day or two. During the drive to this show I'll admit I found myself wondering if there was really justification for going through so much trouble to see Eyes Adrift for a third time. During and atfter the show I found myself wishing I could have seen them a few more times on this tour. They really are a great band with some great songs and their performances are very satisfying to behold.
