The White Stripes are not your typical rock band (as of 2002 anyway). They're a minimalist rock band (only a drummer and a guitarist), but are capable of creating an album with a significant variety of musical flavors. |

The Vines have recieved a generous amount of hype for their debut album Highly Evolved. Record label/media pawns would have you believe that Highly evolved is some immaculate throughback to the glory days of grunge. On the other hand, those who are living in the past waiting for the reincarnation of grunge write this album off as watered down and monotonous. |

Hope you dig The Used, because they are the next big thing. The Used are part of what I'd consider to be a small resurgence of new rock talent. The landscape has been pretty barren the past few years. It seemed that just about everybody wanted to be Korn and not too many bands had anything worth saying. Yeah, there were a few exceptions, but they were fewer and farther between than they had been since the late 80's. Maybe rock just doesn't do so well when decades come to an end. The new slew of bands like Chevelle, The Used, Dredg, System of a Down all have talent and a message, and they are here to blow would be cover bands like Alien Ant Farm and Staind off the radar screen. Good buy cock rock, hello cranium rock. |

Tad is a rather strange animal. When I say that I'm talking about the band...and the man. Of course, they're from the northwest and there are a lot of strange people up that way (and they're very proud of it). Speaking of strange people, J Mascis produced the album. This among other things contributes to Inhaler's raw, not quite professional Seattle/Sub Pop sound. |

It's really not accurate to call this a solo album. It is Stone's project, and he isn't with that other band he's in, but he does have a full band that makes many contributions to this album. In fact, Stone only takes lead vocals on a little over half of this album. Tyl Wilman sings on Bore Me, Cadillac, Unhand Me, and Fend It. As a Pearl Jam fan I've come to enjoy Stone's voice over the years, but Wilman's vocals are a bit shrill and well...they tend to stretch my patience. |
